Welcome to my blog!

 Hello everyone,

This is the first of many blog posts for my Information & Social Media course. To start, I will give a little background of myself and some fun facts to get to know me better.

About Me

My name is Jackson Baumgartner and I am a sophomore at the University of South Florida. I am originally from a northern suburb of Chicago, but since starting college I along with my family have fully moved to Florida, so I am a new Floridian. I am majoring in Health Science with a concentration in Medical IT. I have a broad idea of what I can do with that degree, but I usually make something up whenever someone asks me what I plan to do in the future.

Things About Me

When it comes to interesting things about myself or fun facts I usually blank, so bear with me with what I have picked to share. Something interesting about me is that I get into random phases where I want to learn about something and I somewhat become fixated on learning it for a few weeks to a few months. I have learned how to video-edit, skateboard, build a computer (never did that, just know how to), and a few other things like handstands and drawing. As of right now, I am trying to get really good at chess so I can beat my younger cousin at it. Some other interesting things about me are that I am double jointed so I can do some weird stuff with my shoulders and that I have worse vision than both of my parents. At this point, I am hoping that my vision can get me a service dog because they all seem very nice.

Professional Experience

When it comes to my professional experience I currently work as a Campus Ambassador for Pearson. I give Pearson feedback about their products, host some tabling events on campus, and I recently attended Pearson's National Sales Meeting where I got to speak to a few hundred people about how the college learning experience is now. I also was a lifeguard in high school for three years, but I do not really count that as professional.

Social Media

The social media platform that I use the most is hands down Snapchat. I only text or call my family or very close friends, but when it comes to communicating with people on a daily basis Snapchat is my go-to platform. I use Snapchat the most because people around my age use it and are active on it, so it makes it easy to communicate with them. I do use Instagram and Tiktok, but I rarely post on them, I use them to look at what my friends or people I find funny are posting.

Blogging

This is my first time officially writing a blog, but I am going to write one for my job in a few weeks so this is a good learning opportunity for me. For my job, we write one blog each semester about a topic that interests us. It is just a fun way for people to learn some information from my coworkers and me and we get paid for it so that's fun.

I have not read many blogs aside from the ones that my coworkers write. From the ones that I have seen I enjoy the layout and the new information that I learn from them. I have only read informational blogs, not personal ones, so I am going to experience some different blogs this semester during this course.

So far I have enjoyed writing this blog; It seems like a great way to introduce myself and gives a more personal look into who people are. I actually enjoy designing my blog posts and adding pictures but that may not be for everyone. The only thing I might dislike is getting writer's block and just staring at my screen for 30 minutes.

  1. Welcome to Florida Jackson! I'm very happy to have you in class this semester. Post a picture if you get a service dog. Everyone loves animal photos!
