Hands-On Assignment 2
When I think of media and social networking I think of websites like LinkedIn, Handshake, and Facebook. When I hear the word networking my brain assumes networking in a business sense, but networking takes place even when you follow someone on Instagram, posts for your friends, and in other casual forms of media. I define it as making connections with individuals either in-person or virtually for social or business reasons. The social networking apps and websites I use are Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok. All of these apps have a way of connecting with others and sharing content with people. I use LinkedIn specifically for networking and posting business accomplishments to build my portfolio, while the rest I use for casual and entertainment purposes. I use all of my social networking apps often throughout the week. I spend the most hours on YouTube for entertainment purposes and learning how to do new things like video editing and coding. I could easily spend 15-20 hours on YouTube during the week because I love learning new things and my other apps can not teach me as well as YouTube can. My next most used app is Snapchat because that is my main form of communication with my friends. I use LinkedIn every day to check in on what is happening in the business world and to see if my coworkers posted anything new. The rest of the media platforms I use I do not use frequently, with Twitter being my least used app. The social media I use makes me feel okay about myself; I do not base any opinions on people based on the social media they use. My use of social media helps me stay connected with family members who are in different states. I talk to my aunts and uncles on LinkedIn and text and I Snapchat my cousins to stay in contact. The social media that I use definitely changes how I see the world because most of the news I get is from apps like YouTube and Tiktok.
